Whether you’re a car owner, enthusiast, or in the market for a new ride, this article has got you covered with the hottest cars making waves in the UK automotive scene.

We’ve looked at the official stats from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) to find out which cars have stolen the hearts of UK drivers so far this year.

As of January 2024, a whopping 142,876 new cars were registered on UK roads, an 8.2% increase year to date.

Plug-in Hybrid vehicles have seen the biggest jump in new registrations this year compared to this time last year with a hike of 31.1%, closely followed by Battery-Powered Electric vehicles which have seen a rise of 21% in 2024.

Diesel vehicles saw the biggest drop in new registrations with a decrease of 10.1% from 2023 showing a big move by consumers towards greener vehicles.

Another interesting stat obtained from the figures is the large increase in vehicles being registered for fleet purposes – this saw a huge jump of 29.9%, whilst new private and business registrations saw big decreases this year with -15.8% and -17.7% respectively.

So which brands and models top the list of the best-selling cars in the UK for 2024? Read on to find out.

1. Kia Sportage – 4,239 New Registrations

The Kia Sportage tops the list of 2024’s top-selling cars. As of January 2024 a total of 4,239 new registrations of this model were made in the UK. It’s been top-reviewed by many and even won the Family SUV of the Year award by What Car?

The Kia Sportage has been a regular contender on the list of best-selling cars in the UK since it was first launched back in 2021 and it seems to be increasing in popularity stakes this year by topping the list.

2. Ford Puma – 4,201 New Registrations

Next up on the list of the UK’s best-selling cars is the Ford Puma with 4,201 new registrations. The Puma is a previous What Car? Car of the Year winner.

With production of the Fiesta being ended back in 2023, the Puma seems to be filling it’s place. We wonder if this will soon replace the Fiesta as the UK’s most stolen vehicle anytime soon too?

3. Nissan Qashqai – 4,008 New Registrations

The Nissan Qashqai was the best-selling car back in 2022 and has been on this list for many years. It’s still clearly a favourite of the Brits as it comes in at position 3 on this list with 4,008 new registrations this year.

The Qashqai is also set to get an all-electric version soon, and it’ll be built at the UK’s largest car manufacturing plant in Sunderland too.

4. MG HS – 3,413 New Registrations

The MG HS is a budget-friendly family SUV, one of the main reasons why this model is listed so highly with 3,413 new registrations so far in 2024.

Needing a bigger, family car doesn’t always have to come with a huge price tag.

5. BMW 1 Series – 3,204 New Registrations

We love BMW here at GPSBob so it’s great to see a model from our favourite brand so high up on the list with 3,204 new registrations.

6. MINI – 3,079 New Registrations

The old-school retro classic that is still clearly a staple on Britain’s roads and being snapped up plenty with 3,079 new registrations so far.

There’s a new MINI Cooper expected to land in 2024 too which will no-doubt end up on this list sometime soon.

7. Audi A3 – 2,648 New Registrations

Similar in nature to the BMW 1 Series above, the Audi A3 has seen 2,648 new registrations in 2024.

We know which of the big-3 German manufacturers we prefer :p

8. Volkswagen Golf – 2,456 New Registrations

Despite a swathe of bad reviews from users, the VW Golf is still being snapped up by buyers with 2,456 new registrations.

Auto Express even dubbed the mk8 a “step backwards” regardless of the issues it’s still a firm favourite.

9. Nissan Juke – 2,421 New Registrations
