Choose a keyring tag, magnetic mount or adhesive sticker, then set it up with GPSBob.
The tag sends a low-power Bluetooth signal. A compatible device participating in the network relays its approximate location.
View the last reported location in GPSBob. If no compatible device is nearby, the location stays unchanged until the next detection.
Choose around the updates you need, not just the size of the device.
| What matters | Bluetooth tracking tag | Cellular GPS tracker |
|---|---|---|
| How location is reported | Nearby participating devices report an approximate location. | The tracker determines its position using GPS and sends reports over a mobile network. |
| When it updates | When detected. No nearby compatible devices means no new location report. | At the device’s configured intervals, subject to GPS reception, mobile coverage and power. |
| Power & battery | Low power use; up to one or three years, depending on the tag and conditions. | Battery powered or vehicle powered; battery life varies with reporting frequency. |
| Useful for | Last reported locations for everyday items, equipment and additional family-care information. | More regular location reporting for vehicles, assets or personal use. |
A compatible participating device must detect the Bluetooth signal to generate a new location report. Until then, GPSBob shows the last reported location. Not every nearby phone participates in the network.
No. These tags have no built-in GPS or cellular connection. Location reports depend on detection by nearby compatible devices, so neither the update frequency nor the location accuracy is guaranteed.
The wider location network includes more than one billion compatible devices worldwide. That figure includes phones, tablets and computers, not just smartphones. A new report still requires a participating device to be nearby and able to relay it.
These tags provide additional location information when detected. Reports and any location-based alerts can be delayed. Use them alongside appropriate supervision and care arrangements; they are not an emergency response device or a guarantee of someone’s current whereabouts.
No. The tag does not have its own cellular connection, but GPSBob tracking service can carry an ongoing charge. Check the product’s included service period and plan options before buying.
Location updates are more likely where participating devices regularly pass nearby. In remote areas, enclosed metal spaces or places with few compatible devices, updates may be infrequent or unavailable.
