GPSBob Mongoose Process

When you choose a Thatcham-approved GPSBob Mongoose S5 or S7 tracking system, you’re connecting your vehicle to a professional 24-hour monitoring network that’s ready to respond the moment something unusual happens.

Here’s how the alert process works — from the first alert signal to full recovery.

How your Mongoose tracker detects unusual activity
Your Mongoose tracker constantly monitors your vehicle’s movement and power supply. It’s designed to detect any signs of tampering or unauthorised movement.

Mongoose S7 systems look for:

  • The tracker being unplugged or losing power including voltage loss
  • Tow-away or unauthorised movement

Mongoose S5 systems include all of the above, plus:

  • Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR) – your vehicle recognises an authorised driver via a small ADR tag
  • If the vehicle moves without this tag nearby, an alert is automatically triggered (If the device is an S5+ with immobilisation, the vehicle will simply not start. No Tag, No Start)

You can also manually raise an alert using the GPSBob mobile app if you believe your vehicle has been stolen or interfered with.

What happens when an alert is raised

When your tracker triggers an alert, our response process begins immediately.
Here’s what happens step by step:

1. Immediate contact
As soon as our 24/7 monitoring centre receives an alert, our operators call you right away. During this call, you’ll be asked to confirm what’s happening:

  • False alert – everything is fine (for example, your car is being serviced or transported).
  • Confirmed theft – you know the vehicle has been taken.
  • Not sure – you can’t confirm right now.

If you confirm a theft, or you’re unsure, the process moves to the next stage immediately.

2. Reporting the theft to the police

If it appears that your vehicle has been stolen, it’s essential that you contact the police first to officially report the theft.

  • They’ll issue a crime reference number (CRN) — please make a note of this straight away.
  • Once you have the CRN, provide it to our monitoring team.

Our operators will then use this number to liaise directly with the police, sharing verified tracking data and assisting with the live location of your vehicle.

3. Live tracking and police coordination
After receiving your crime reference number, our monitoring team continues to:

  • Track your vehicle in real time
  • Provide the police with ongoing updates on location, direction, and speed
  • Keep you informed throughout the recovery process

Our goal is to work closely with the police to help ensure your vehicle is located quickly and safely.

4. After recovery
Once the police confirm your vehicle has been recovered, our team will:

  • Close the alert
  • Ensure you have all relevant information from the incident
